The tradition of honoring exceptional members for their outstanding contributions to our community has been reignited at 100State, and once again, the coveted red crown takes its place as a symbol of distinction.
September’s recipient of the red crown is John Tobin, a relatively new addition to the 100State family. Despite his recent arrival, John has already made an indelible mark by infusing the space with his unwavering positivity and a willingness to extend a helping hand whenever it’s needed. John’s presence has truly enhanced our community, and we’re thrilled to have him as a valued member!

What motivates you?
New challenges. I frequently work with struggling startups, which provides lots of these opportunities!
Why do you work out of a coworking space? And more importantly, why 100state?
I’ve worked remote for 20 years. My partner has never worked remote, but needed to because of the pandemic, so we’ve had to try and have two home offices. Working at 100 State has enabled some extra space at home and has given me an opportunity to experience co-working and meeting new people. I love being downtown in Madison and I also really appreciate the great views!
Who do you look at as a role model and why?
My business is focused on working with early-stage companies in the Life Sciences where the founders have invested in launching a business around innovative technology. I can’t pick a single role model because I’m quite impressed by all these individuals. Many of these innovations are quite impactful to improving health and longevity. It’s quite inspiring to work in a space with such creativity where efforts are improving outcomes for people and their families.
What is your favorite 100state memory?
I’m quite new here and still actively working on building those. I can say I really appreciate the effort to create community. I’ve enjoyed showing up for the end of the work-week “Scotch O’Clocks” and I’m looking forward to the community events 100State is hosting.
When you’re not at 100state, where can you be found?
I like supporting local small businesses. One place I can consistently be found on Wednesday evenings is Origin Bread on Brearly Street, for their Pizza collaboration with their neighbor brewery, Giant Jones. I’m also an early bird at the Capitol Square for the Farmers Market every Saturday, which is conveniently just a hop, skip, and a jump from 100State.
