Bio- I was born in the rural midwest and have spent the last 17 years in Madison after living on the West Coast for a few years. Pareidolia Doodles Series par·ei·do·lia ˌper-ˌī-ˈdō-lē-ə : the tendency to perceive a specific, often meaningful image in a random or ambiguous visual pattern doodle : an aimless or casual scribble, design, or sketch You know when you gaze at some puffy clouds and figures start to take form? Maybe a dragon appears within the morphing shape. Or you see the face of a schnauzer in a piece of plywood. This is called pareidolia and majority of humans have this ability. I use this ability in my series called Pareidolia Doodles. My process for these doodles is multi step. First I have to create the the texture for the pareidolia to activate. I do this with alcohol based markers scribbled on a sheet of cling wrap and the rewet it with alcohol. I bunch up the cling wrap into intuitive ripples and stamp my paper onto it creating an almost watercolor effect. Once it’s dry, I come back to it with ink markers and pens to doodle the pareidolia. When I see something emerge from the texture I draw it on the paper. Think of it as drawing in what you see on a Rorschach ink blot test.
