This month’s member of the month and artist highlight is Sam Christensen. You can find Sam working out of our art studio at 100state or interning at Overture Galleries. Sam has been an Artist in Resident and our 100arts intern for about a year now, and we’re so fortunate to have him be apart of the team! This week we chatted with Sam about 100state and his passion towards art.
1.) What motivates you?
What motivates me is other artists, and fellow creatives! I desire to be as prolific as possible within my art. and try everyday to focus on creating something new and exciting.
2.) Why do you work out of a coworking space? And more specifically, why 100state?
I work out of a co-working space because I believe that as a creative, I benefit highly from being around like minded people, that simply want to support each other’s endeavors and see one another succeed.
2.b.) specifically 100 State because we have a great space with even better people who support the art scene here in Madison!
3.) Who do you look at as a role model and why?
I look at many artists as role models, But someone that has been inspiring me a lot recently is Virgil Abloh. He works creatively within many realms of the art world. As one of the lead designers of both Nike, and Luis Vuitton he is extremely prolific and is someone I look up to as a source of inspiration.
4.) What is your favorite 100state memory?
One of my favorite memories of 100 State is from the last art show on gallery night. Having everything come together so well with the help of my boss Meg Brewer, all the artists and some 100 State members. Come check out the next show this October 5th!
5.) What inspires you to keep pursuing your dream?
Two things that keep pushing me towards my dream are the fear of failure and the allure and promises of success.
6.) When you’re not at 100state, where can you be found?
When I’m not at 100 State, you can usually find me camping, in my studio, or at the skate park!
