Occupation:
Realtor.
What motivates you?
I’ve tried to live life by my own rules, and there’s no better way to do that than self-employment!
Why do you work out of a co-working space? And more importantly, why 100state?
I used to work from home or coffee shops for years, and something was missing (although I couldn’t put my finger on it). I initially toured 100state to see how it differed from the other co-working spaces around Madison. Community, as I later found out, was exactly what I was missing. While I live the hustle and bustle of working from a cafe nothing beats the community spirit found at 100state. It’s so much more than a desk and high-speed wifi.
Who do you look at as a role model and why?
My mentor/friend Gayle Kugler. She achieved early success as an early employee of a print-media startup that grew 230X under her leadership before pivoting to public sector work (both for UW and then the City of Milwaukee). Along the way, she’s mentored young professionals in everything from non-profit leadership, governance, and startups.
What is your favorite 100state memory?
There’s too many to count! I’ll never forget the first time I was invited to partake in a group meditation. It was clear to me that day that 100state was more than just a place to get work done.
I’m a determined optimist. I believe that the future will be better than the present, but it’s not automatic. We all have to make our contributions wherever we can (in our neighborhoods, companies, co-working spaces, etc). My favorite quote is from Theodore Roosevelt “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
When you’re not at 100state, where can you be found?
I’m a realtor by day so I can be found bouncing around Madison helping people find their next home. Having lived in Madison for 30 years I love sharing my local expertise with my clients.
